What is an engagement session?

What is an engagement session?

You’ve probably seen them on blogs, facebook and bridal magazines: professional pictures of engaged friends and couples with the sun in the background, laughing, having fun. In our industry, this is called engagement photography. It’s the chance for the photographer to capture two people in love, and want to share with the world. It’s an oppertunity to work with your photographer for the first time, get to know your photographer and getting used to the camera’s just being a few centimeters away from you. Because that can be a bit intimidating at first. It’s a good way for us to get you both confortable in front of the camera, and there are no surprises on your big day. These photo shoots can be as fun as you want them to be, a fun date with two people who happened to be photographers. Your beautiful photographs can be used for your save-the-date cards, thank you cards, to dress up your wedding venue or even a guest book.

What happens during the engagement session?

Once we have decided on the location, an egagment session usually lasts about 1-2 hours. During our time together, we’ll get you confortable of the idea being photographed. We’ll make you laugh, we’ll make you smile, make you do silly dance moves. An engagment session is meant to be fun, and it is. And that’s what we’ll try to capture. Your interaction, fun and spontaneous moments between you both. We will experiment. We will play with the immediate surroundings where you are getting your engagement photo’s taken, with the available light, and try to get your personalities get through. Sometimes we really like a particular spot, and we’ll try to stay a little bit longer to get that beautiful picture. Next thing you know, the sun is setting, and after that it’s time to have a drink together.

What should we wear on an engagement session?

Wear something fun, and more importantly, something that’s you. If that’s a bow tie and geek glasses, just do it. A floral summer dress and a pair of beautiful cowboy boots, we like. These are your photos to look back on years from now on. And that’s why we advice to keep it timeless. When it comes to colours, we like to have a bit of contrast with the environment where we are getting your engagement pictures taken, to make them pop a bit. We also recommend a bit of layering. We also don’t mind a bit of variety without having to change your outfit completely, which can be ahndy when the weather changes. For guys, it van be a nice jacket, cardigan or sweater. For girls, you know better what to wear than we do, so just use your judgement.
